£18995

1971 Triumph TR6 2.5 PI – Stage 2 Performance Upgrade.

The Triumph TR6 is widely regarded as one of Britain's finest sports cars, combining timeless Michelotti styling with the performance and character of Triumph's legendary fuel-injected straight-six engine. Offering robust mechanicals, excellent parts availability and a truly engaging driving experience, the TR6 remains one of the most sought-after classic roadsters on the market today.

Presented here is an exceptionally well-cared-for 1971 Triumph TR6 2.5 PI, owned by its current custodian for many years and improved throughout their stewardship in the way only a true enthusiast would. Showing just under 83,000 miles and with only four keepers from new, this is a superbly sorted example that has benefitted from extensive investment and meticulous maintenance.

Finished in Signal Red following a high-quality repaint in 2015, the car is complemented by its original black interior, original dashboard and a beautiful wood-rim Moto-Lita steering wheel. Powder-coated wheels, refreshed chromework and the desirable factory-style hardtop give the car a purposeful, well-presented appearance.

Importantly, this TR6 has not been over-restored. It retains a pleasing level of originality and patina that makes it an immensely usable classic, preserved and improved rather than restored beyond recognition.

The substantial history file documents decades of careful ownership, upgrades and no-expense-spared maintenance. Highlights include:

  • Electronic ignition
  • Uprated ignition coil
  • Modern Bosch fuel pump conversion
  • Refurbished fuel metering unit
  • Stage 2 engine conversion
  • Stage 2 cylinder head
  • Throttle spindle repairs
  • Polybushed steering column
  • Upgraded PRV system
  • New door cards
  • Structural repairs to the A-pillars
  • Telescopic rear damper conversion
  • Uprated suspension springs
  • K and N air filter
  • Stainless steel twin box sports exhaust.

Originally restored in 1988, the car underwent a further comprehensive restoration and mechanical overhaul between 2014 and 2015 by Tarrant Engineering, with documented expenditure exceeding £13,700.

During this work the engine was fully rebuilt, including a Stage 2 cylinder head, honed bores and polished crankshaft. The body received a full repaint in Signal Red and, while there are now a few minor age-related marks consistent with use, the car continues to present beautifully.

The result is an enthusiast-owned TR6 with all the right ingredients: strong performance, proven reliability, excellent drivability and a comprehensive history file. Equally capable of being enjoyed on long touring journeys, spirited weekend drives or displayed proudly at classic car events, this is a TR6 that is ready to be driven and enjoyed.

Priced at just £18,995, this represents outstanding value for such a well-sorted and extensively developed TR6. It has already become a favourite amongst the New Elms team—several members of staff are reportedly checking their piggy banks!
